What is StoneLove?
StoneLove is a groovy, riff driven rock band with a psychedelic flavor featuring Mark Furze. Mark is an actor and singer, best known for his role as Ric Dalby on the Australian soap opera Home and Away. He also competed in the Australian version of The Voice, a popular singing competition series.
Phase 1
Concept & Brainstorming
During the initial kick off call, Mark mentioned that he already had a band logo but wanted to update it with an image of his dog, to commemorate his memory. He also expressed a desire to update the font and add an element of psychedelic presence. The goal was to convey a classic rock n’ roll vibe of great bands like Led Zeppelin, Motorhead, Alice In Chains, and Black Sabbath. Mark wanted the dog to have a third eye as well as his tongue out slobbering all over himself. The first goal of mine was to determine the look and feel of Marks’ dog. His pup was a pitbull that was both cuddly and cute, as well as menacing and threatening. I explored a few variations of cute, menacing and a combination of the two expressions.
After the first review, it was decided to move away from a cartoony representation of the dog and instead focus on a more serious look with hint of playfulness. Mark has also requested to reuse an already existing triangle symbol to frame the dog and draw attention to the overall composition of the logo. We also came to a conclusion that the glasses might be a little too much detail, so an option without the glasses was created.
Phase 2
Final Logo
After a few review sessions we came to satisfying conclusion. The final logo featured Marks’ dog, a visual representation of his bands musical sound, a reimagined type treatment for his already existing text based logo, as well as a number of other thoughtful touches. Below are examples of both the final text and badge logos.
