Create an animated pre-roll video that highlighted the new and exciting Google Play Arcade. The main goal of the ad was to drive downloads within the Google Play Store.

Phase 1

Concept & Storyboarding

 

We wanted to grab people’s attention, by capturing the fun and excitement of stepping into an arcade with a pocket full of quarters. The Arcade is a fun, curated, and simpler way to play and discover new games.

THE NEW ARCADE

For decades, people have come to arcades to play games, have fun, and socialize.

While arcades may be a thing of the past, this concept draws on the nostalgia of arcades - through vintage footage and vibrant graphics - to capture the excitement and fun of the new arcad

JOYSTICK

What says “arcade” quite like a pocket full of quarters, a joystick, and the buttons? Your pulse quickens as the game begins, dropping you into a world of adventure.

This concept turns a phone into an arcade machine. Using colorful animation and game footage to build the world of the arcade around you, it captures the excitement of putting in your quarter, then grabbing onto the joystick.

ARCADE ZOOM

The lights. The colors. The sounds. The graphics. The people. When you step into an arcade, you step into a sensory overload, in the best possible way.

This concept uses all of these to zoom you into, and through, an arcade and into a featured game.

Refined Storyboards

 

Refined “Joystick” concept storyboards with time stamps and motion studies.

Timing Reference

Timing reference made for the motion designer to sync up the visual effects with the content that is placed inside the device.
